signs you need to repair your dryer

Signs That You Need To Repair Your Dryer

Like many of our other home appliances, we don't usually think about dealing with a broken dryer until that dreaded day is upon us. It's not until you notice a problem that you start to think about repairs or possibly having to replace your dryer. Fortunately, in many cases, repairs can help restore your dryer to perfect working order without costing you an arm and a leg. The key is to make sure that you contact a specialist as soon as you need repairs done. Here are some warning signs to look out for when it comes to dryer maintenance.

Taking Long To Dry A Load

If you feel like your dryer is not performing as it should, you can do a little test. Place a load inside and time it to see how long it really takes to dry your clothes. In many cases, problems are first noticeable due to the decreased efficiency of the appliance. So, if your dryer is indeed taking longer to dry a load of laundry, this could indicate a problem. Remember, this type of problem can sneak up on you slowly. At first, the load might only take between 5 and 10 minutes longer. However, over time, this increases and soon you will be spending almost twice as long drying a single load of laundry.

The Smell Of Something Burning

If you smell something burning, you might need to turn your dryer off and unplug it right away! Make sure that you turn off the breaker or fuse before you unplug the appliance. In some cases, the smell is due to a lint box that has not been cleaned for a while. Of course, if you know that you clean out the lint with every use, it's obvious that this will most likely not be the case. Once your dryer is unplugged, remove your laundry and call a technician right away. This is not a job that should be attempted by anyone without the proper training and experience.

Drum Not Turning

When the drum on your dryer stops turning, don't worry. It's not the end of the world. There are a number of small parts that are responsible for turning the drum and wear and tear will occur with each use. The problem could be with the drive belt, bearings, glides, or axles. It is best to have a technician diagnose and repair the problem. While inspecting this part of your appliance, they may even suggest some preventive maintenance. In other words, if there are additional parts that appear to have significant wear, it could be worthwhile replacing these parts as well. This will prevent your dryer from breaking down again too soon and causing even more inconvenience.

Obvious Signs

Apart from the symptoms mentioned above, you should also be aware of any strange noises or error codes that can appear when a problem arises. It is also good to note that general problems with your electricity supply or power outlet can create the impression of a faulty dryer. For this reason, you should check these before calling a technician. Not only can this quick check save you money, but time and plenty of stress too.
